It's been a fun week of teaching in Taiwan! Since the Taipei intensive, I've taught a workshop at Cold Steel Lab in Taichung, two workshops at the CHIMEI Museum in Tainan, and a combat workshop in Kaohsiung. Then I took a day off and tried a little surfing.

I'm pleased to share a little from each stop with you.

Taichung: Cold Steel Lab

My first stop was Taichung, where I taught a workshop at Cold Steel Lab, the school run by Ryan (方品鈞), one of our Taipei intensive participants.

Ryan has built a beautifully put-together training space at Cold Steel Lab, and we had a full house. The workshop went really well.

Tainan: Two Workshops at the CHIMEI Museum

Then it was down to Tainan and the CHIMEI Museum, where I taught two full groups of 30 people: a three-hour longsword workshop in the morning and a three-hour rapier workshop in the afternoon. Along with the workshops, there were tours of the museum's medieval weapons and its Renaissance and later weapons.

Tai Lee, a Senior Student and Duello Armizare Instructor, and Sakura Sanguines, the Taipei group who hosted our Level 1 Duello Armizare Instructor Intensive, have translated and assisted at all of these workshops. At CHIMEI they were joined by a crew from a school in Tainan.

It was a really rewarding experience, and there was a lot of interest from people there in DuelloTV in Chinese, the translation I'm working on with Tai.

A huge thank you to Tai, Sakura Sanguines and the Tainan crew for all their help!

Kaohsiung: Tactics and the Four Attitudes

The next day I taught a combat workshop in Kaohsiung, with a smaller group of nine. We worked a lot on tactics, in particular the four attitudes, and on how to train from fundamental skills up to performance in environments like tournaments. There was a very broad range of skill in the group, and it went really well.

After that, I took a day off in the south of Taiwan and tried a little surfing. That went really well too!

Coming Up: Greatsword and Two Swords in Taipei

Now I'm taking a little time off before heading back to Taipei this weekend, November 7–8, for a greatsword workshop and a two-sword workshop.

Thanks for following along on my travels!

Nanjing, China: A Weekend of Fencing, Museums, and Martial Exchange

I’ve just returned from Nanjing, China, where I had the pleasure of teaching a two-part seminar over the weekend. The first day took place at the Nanjing Wall Museum, and the second at Nanjing Axon Martial Arts. What made the experience especially meaningful was not only the quality of the hosting, but the quality of…
